Full‑time, Permanent Consultant position at Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. 10 sessions per week (full‑time). Salary £109,725 – £145,478 per annum.

Job overview: Replacement post for an established TAVI consultant. The post involves operating TAVI procedures, supporting the structural heart team, and contributing to all aspects of the programme, including alternative access, CT planning, and research.

Main duties:

  • The role is that of a dedicated TAVI operator.
  • You will perform TF TAVI lists (2.5 per week, 10–12 cases per week), ad‑hoc procedures, a monthly surgical TAVI list, provide weekly MDT input, and run a dedicated weekly TAVI clinic.
  • You will also lead nurse‑led clinic follow‑ups and pre‑admission clinics.
  • Opportunities to develop further structural heart disease areas (TEER, PFO, paravalvular leak, VSD, etc.) may also arise.

Detailed responsibilities:

  • Operate TAVI procedures independently.
  • Plan and execute TAVI cases using CT imaging and alternative access methods.
  • Provide weekly multidisciplinary team expertise.
  • Run and manage TAVI clinic and follow‑up clinics.
  • Lead and develop additional structural interventions (TEER, paravalvular leak closure, PFO closure, VSD closure).
  • Participate in and support the successful TAVI training programme.
  • Contribute to audit, research and clinical governance.

Qualifications:

  • MRCP(UK) and fully registered on the Specialist Register.
  • Postgraduate degree in cardiology.

Clinical experience:

  • Experience equivalent to UK CCT in cardiology.
  • Proficient in all aspects of contemporary coronary intervention, including independent PPCI.
  • Extensive consultant‑level experience in TAVI with demonstrated national profile.
  • Independent TAVI implanter with experience across devices.
  • Experience in wider structural interventions (TEER, paravalvular leak closure, PFO/VSD closure).
  • National leader in TAVI CT interpretation.

Management & Administrative experience:

  • Advising on efficient service delivery.
  • Organising outpatient priorities, waiting lists and catheter laboratory scheduling.
  • Leading a TAVI sub‑specialty service and associated working parties.
  • Experience in audit management.

Teaching experience:

  • Supervising and mentoring consultant colleagues.
  • Teaching clinical and operative skills.
  • Level 1 and Level 2 educational supervisor accreditation.
  • Supervision of postgraduate research.

Research experience:

  • Applying research outcomes to clinical practice.
  • Peer‑reviewed publications.
  • Success in grant experience.

Personal attributes:

  • Teamworking and good interpersonal skills.
  • Enquiring, critical approach to work.
  • Excellent communication with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies.
  • Commitment to continuing medical education.
