The Lead PMA will provide visible leadership and expert support within maternity services, ensuring the implementation of the A-EQUIP model, a continuous quality improvement framework designed to enhance care for women and babies, build midwives’ resilience, and support professional development and revalidation. We are looking for someone with creativity and innovation who can evidence how and what they have achieved to support service user and staff experience. Main duties of the job:
- Be responsible for embedding the A-EQUIP model across the service so that quality improvement becomes part of everyday practice.
- Implement the four functions of A-EQUIP.
- Act as a senior advocate for midwives, promoting safe, high-quality, person-centered maternity care.
- Support midwives through Restorative Clinical Supervision (RCS) and facilitate annual PMA meetings for all midwives.
- Provide strategic input into maternity governance and quality assurance systems.
- Work closely with Heads of Midwifery, Consultant Midwives, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Work with service users, HEIs, and regional maternity networks.
- Promote compassionate care and staff wellbeing through structured support mechanisms.

Person specification:
Knowledge, Training and Experience:
- Registered midwife.
- Demonstrable well-developed leadership skills.
- Professional credibility with senior colleagues, and midwives.
- European computer driving licence (ECDL) or equivalent experience.
- A thorough understanding of The Code (NMC 2015).
- Has been appointed as a Professional Midwifery advocate.
- Educated to MSc level.
- Criteria that can be acquired once in employment or a means to employ the most suitable candidates.
Skills:
- Possession of well-developed negotiation, networking and communication skills.
- Knowledge of issues of confidentiality and demonstrate appropriateness in dealing with sensitive personal, patient and corporate information.
- Experience of working as part of a team and can demonstrate principles of effective team working.
