Overview:

Make a difference in Haematology/Oncology Care in the Community! Are you a dedicated and compassionate healthcare professional? Join our Community Cancer team as a phlebotomist and become a vital part of our service. You’ll provide crucial community support to patients managing blood disorders and cancer, offering care, comfort, and a listening ear during, before, during and after treatment, in their own homes or at our outreach clinics. The post holder will deliver compassionate, high-quality, skilled care under the guidance of a Registered Practitioner, ensuring patient privacy, dignity, and individualised care.

Main duties of the job:

  • This is a cross site position working alongside both the Hinchingbrooke Community Cancer Nursing (HCCN) team and the Peterborough Community Cancer Nursing team (PCCN).
  • You will be visiting patients in their homes, with some outreach clinic support, being a vital part of the phlebotomy service.
  • You will need to have excellent phlebotomy skills already, as you will be a lone worker in the community.
  • You will also need a clean and full driving licence, as well as excellent communication skills.
  • This can be a demanding role and it is essential you enjoy being a team player, as well as working alone.

Person specification:

  • Qualification in English and Maths
  • Expert skills and up to date experience for venepuncture
  • NVQ in Healthcare or Care certificate

Experience:

  • To be accountable for own actions
  • Experience of hospital or community working
  • Experienced phlebotomist

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Agenda for Change Terms and conditions
  • Knowledge to file event packs accurately and set health records in date order

  • Written communication and verbal communication skills
  • Able to liaise with patients, carers, visitors and trust staff at all levels
  • Able to prioritise work at all levels
