A vacancy for a full-time Consultant in Respiratory Medicine has arisen. This is an exciting time to join the Respiratory Department at HDFT. The successful applicant will join a friendly, well-established and innovative multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of high quality care to patients with specialist problems in respiratory medicine. We have a successful respiratory outreach team. There are excellent opportunities for the post holders to develop new or existing services according to their clinical interests. The post holders will participate in the acute unselected medical on call rota.

Main duties of the job:

  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
  • To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Respiratory Department.
  • Cover duties in respiratory and acute medicine as per job plan.
  • Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students.
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

  • Respiratory will be the primary specialty for the post holder(s). The appointee(s) will have joint responsibility, with the current members of the Respiratory team, for the provision of a consultant led and delivered service. Prospective cross cover is required for leave.
  • Participation in the acute general medical on-call rota.
  • To regularly devote time for the training of junior medical staff, contributing as appropriate to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education.
  • To manage personal workload in such a way as to ensure that capacity is maximised and quality of care is optimised.
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to the nursing and support staff within the team.
  • Provision of advice to Trust Managers, local General Practitioners and other interested parties, on the provision, planning and development of medical services.
  • Participate in MDT working.
  • Explore service modernisation opportunities such as preventative care and development of community led initiatives/support to primary care.

Person specification:

  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview.
  • Understanding of all aspects of Respiratory Medicine.
  • Completed Fellowship programme or postgraduate thesis.
  • Success in intercollegiate Specialty Examination or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Five years supervised training in an appropriate SpR equivalent training programme.

Knowledge:

  • Ability to convert research evidence into clinical practice.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
