We are recruiting for a full time (10PA) substantive consultant in Stroke Medicine base at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will join our existing A rated (SSNAP) Stroke Unit at the Royal Free Hospital. The team sits within the wider Neurosciences team consisting of Neurology, Neurophysiology, Neuropsychology and Neurorehabilitation services.
Main duties of the job
The service is responsible for a 16 bed Acute Stroke Unit and an outpatient service that includes a weekday TIA service. The service currently consists of 2 Stroke consultants and an expert MDT. The successful candidate will help support and expand the current stroke service. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and proactive individual who can complement the existing team. We would particularly welcome individuals with interests in clinical research and teaching.
Working for our organisation
The unit plays an important role in supporting the HASU based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (UCLH) which includes interventional neuroradiology and mechanical thrombectomy. The successful candidate will join the 1:13 HASU on call rota.
In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to the Health Services for Elderly People (HSEP) service working in the TREAT service (triage rapid elderly assessment team) and joining the rota for Geriatric Medicine on a 1:11 basis.

Education & professional Qualifications
- Entry to the GMC specialist register via CCT, CESR or European Community rights
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- CCT in Stroke Medicine
- Experience of working in UK healthcare
- Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
Experience
- Ability to demonstrate broad clinical skills in the management of all patients
- NHS Experience
- Clinical research experience
- Experience in national audit
Skills and aptitudes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
- Evidence of academic excellence
