An exciting opportunity has arisen for registered Midwives to join the Maternity Services of Swansea Bay University Health Board as Band 6 Community Midwife. The successful applicant must have knowledge and experience of all aspects of Midwifery practice and will be expected to provide supportive care to women throughout all stages of pregnancy.

Main duties of the job:
  • The post holder will be expected to provide universal midwifery care during preconception, antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
  • They will be accountable for the delivery of direct midwifery care within a designated clinical area or caseload.
  • They will provide high quality, evidenced based care and advice to women throughout antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods in a variety of settings such as community, the woman’s home and the Freestanding Midwifery Unit (FMU).
  • The post holder will practice and maintain clinical skills appropriate for community midwifery practice through experience, and on completion of midwifery skills competencies, as required.
  • The post holder is required to participate in the community on call rota.
  • The post holder will maintain active NMC registration meeting all revalidation requirements.

Requirements:
  • Registered Midwife with active NMC Registration
  • Knowledge and understanding of current professional midwifery issues and the national maternity agenda
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Adults/Children including the Social Services & Well-being (Wales) Act 2014, Wales Safeguarding Procedures 2019, Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse & Sexual Violence (Wales) Act 2015 Mental Health Act, 1983
  • Community PROMPT faculty
  • Hypnobirthing accreditation
  • Post registration clinical experience
  • Can demonstrate a range of clinical experience
  • Experience of multi-professional working
  • Evidence of delivering compassionate, patient-focused and women-centred care and using service user engagement and feedback to improve services
  • Evidence of recent commitment to continuous development of self and others
  • Experience of managing a community caseload
  • Experience of providing care during home birth, and births within freestanding midwifery units
Aptitude and Abilities:
  • Competent to suture without supervision
  • Obstetric and neonatal emergencies – competent to lead in the management of an emergency
  • Venepuncture – able to perform competently.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Generate, via PC, reports, databases and spreadsheets requiring keyboard skills
  • Actively seek opportunities to continually develop oneself, consistent with the principles of lifelong learning and in line with the NMC continuous professional development requirement
  • Effective communication skills to all levels of staff
  • Demonstrate diplomacy, empathy and neutrality
  • Demonstrates clinical leadership skills
  • Ability to apply policies & procedures, efficiently and safely to manage services
