Are you a technically skilled professional with a passion for ensuring patient safety and clinical excellence through medical technology? We are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Engineering Technician to join our dedicated team at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and commissioning a wide range of medical and healthcare equipment used across multiple clinical settings—from wards and theatres to critical care and emergency departments. You’ll play a central role in keeping our equipment safe, compliant, and fully operational to support patient care.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver preventative maintenance, servicing, calibration, and repairs on a broad range of electrical, electronic, and mechanical medical devices.
  • Support the commissioning and acceptance of new medical equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out corrective actions on patient-connected and life-support systems.
  • Provide technical advice and support to clinical staff, promoting safe and effective equipment use.
  • Work across various departments, occasionally under pressure, to support urgent clinical needs.
  • Maintain meticulous technical records in line with ISO 9001:2015 standards and Trust protocols.
  • Contribute to training, continuous improvement, and development initiatives within the Clinical Engineering service.

Person specification

Education/Knowledge and Qualifications

  • HNC or Level 4 qualification in Clinical Engineering, Electronics, or equivalent.
  • Further technical or vocational training (e.g., medical device servicing courses).
  • Working towards professional registration (EngTech).

Experience

  • Experience of working with electronic or electromechanical systems.
  • Previous NHS or healthcare engineering experience.
  • Experience using a CMMS (e.g., e-Quip).

Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of medical equipment safety and function.
  • Familiarity with health and safety practices.
  • Awareness of standards such as IEC 62353, UK MDR.
