Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is one of the largest Integrated Health Boards in the UK, employing over 16,000 staff and providing over 100 specialist services. Serving a population of around 500,000 people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, we are focused on the health and care needs of our local population whilst also working with our partners to develop regional services.
We are looking for a keen and motivated Band 6 nurse to join our team in delivering essential and specialist Cardiothoracic critical care nursing to our patients in the University Hospital of Wales. Cardiothoracic ITU is an 11 bedded clinical area consisting of a mix of Level 3 beds and Level 2 beds, with an excellent established nursing team who will be able to support and assist your development whilst you provide high quality nursing care to patients who have undergone cardiac or thoracic surgery.
The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills and will work well within a team, and be competent in cardiac/critical care nursing. The ability to cope in stressful and demanding situations is highly desirable, although support will be given.
Main duties of the job:
- The post holder will work closely with the Ward Sisters and Deputy Ward Sisters and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining excellent clinical standards of nursing practice and staff development.
- The post holder will be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of staff by acting as a mentor and preceptor.
- The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant and specialised forms of care without direct supervision and is required to demonstrate procedures, supervise registered and/or unregistered staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
- The post holder will be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
