This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new Occupational Therapy Team, working with young people between the age of 12 and 18 years at Ty Llidiard. The post holder will join an extended Occupational Therapy team within the multi-disciplinary team workforce - ensuring the delivery of an evidence-based, occupationally focussed specialist assessment and intervention service to children and young people in Ty Llidiard.

Main duties of the job:

  • The post holder will lead on the delivery of occupational therapy assessment and intervention with children and young people in Ty Llidiard, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
  • You will be supporting individuals in their recovery – working collaboratively with service users to achieve optimum levels of occupational performance and occupational balance in the areas of lifestyle management, motivation, interpersonal skills, cognitive skills, self-care, productivity (education, training and/or employment) and leisure.
  • There is scope to facilitate environmental and sensory adaptation strategies to support inclusion and engagement in these areas.
  • Assessment outcomes will inform appropriate intervention plans, identify strengths and adaptive strategies, support recovery, facilitate early discharge and identify post-discharge support needs.
  • You will be leading the occupational therapy team within this setting. The team comprises of a Band 6 post and a Band 4 Assistant OT Practitioner.
  • In addition to a robust occupational focus, the occupational therapy team will contribute significantly to risk assessment and risk management processes.
  • Working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and service leads, you will inform the development of the occupational therapy and wider service, and contribute to service evaluation and developments.

Welsh Skills: Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn’t need to have skills in Welsh, we’ll consider it an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

Person specification:

Qualifications: Possess a Degree in Occupational Therapy, supplemented by post‑graduate training in a related area of occupational therapy and/or mental health practice – such as rehabilitation, recovery, occupational or psychological intervention skills to Diploma Level equivalency. Highly specialist knowledge of standardised and non‑standardised assessments appropriate for use with children and adolescents.

Experience: Extensive experience working within related mental health setting. Extensive experience of recovery and rehabilitation principles within clinical practice. Extensive experience of delivering functional/ADL assessment to inform Care and Treatment plans, future needs, discharge planning and identify strengths.

Skills: Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are Desirable for this Role.
