We are actively seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic consultant to join the Clinical Haematology Service at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. This job role is for 10 PAs per week to support the development and delivery of clinical haematology and laboratory services at our two hospital sites - Royal Blackburn and Burnley General. Additional PAs are negotiable at interview. A locum fixed term contract would be considered if the candidate is on a CESR pathway and due to complete within 2 years. Flexibility may be considered for those who are unable to work full-time due to personal reasons. Visits will be happily supported for candidates and their families. Applicants must hold valid registration with the GMC.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Providing a clinical and laboratory service, managing a full range of haematological conditions to BCSH level 2a.
  • Participating in the on-call rota, providing advice and clinical help across hospital and community.
  • Undertaking Clinics at both Royal Blackburn site and Burnley General Hospital.
  • Participating in Core Medical Trainee and undergraduate teaching.

Person specification:

  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Experience in one or more subspecialty areas and ability to take a lead role in that area.
  • Evidence of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and commitment to these within the Trust.
  • Clear commitment to lifelong learning and experience of evidence based medicine.
  • Understanding of current NHS management systems including clinical governance and risk management.
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues and users of the service including patients and their relatives.
  • Ability to work in a team with professional colleagues both medical and non-medical.
