At the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, you would join the Young Adult Hip group within the Large Joints department. The expectation would be that the post-holder would have a predominant interest in Young Adult Hip and Hip Preservation surgery to include hip arthroscopy, pelvic/femoral osteotomy and complex arthroplasty surgery focusing on the treatment of femoro-acetabular impingement, hip dysplasia, traumatic soft tissue hip conditions or the sequelae of paediatric hip pathology e.g., Perthes disease or SUFE, including arthroplasty surgery in cases with complex anatomy. A flexible approach to working with colleagues and other members of the Multidisciplinary team is expected to ensure maximal efficiency within the department.

The department undertakes a comprehensive range of hip and knee surgical procedures. It is intended that the appointee will have a particular interest in Young Adult Hip Surgery, so appropriate demonstration of quality fellowship training is essential.

Main duties of the job:

  • The post runs in parallel with another Senior Fellow in Young Adult Hip. Ward based cover is provided by junior doctors and an ANP.
  • The department is also supported by a Consultant Physiotherapist, an ESP, a Physician Associate and a part-time Theatre Assistant.
  • The appointee will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Clinical Governance structure developed by the Trusts to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care.
  • The Trusts are committed to the development of medical staff through individual appraisal.

This will include:

  • Audit of personal clinical practice as well as involvement in department/speciality reviews.
  • Attention to continuing professional development and to meeting the requirements for Continuing Medical Education defined by the relevant Royal College (and for which appropriate study leave support will be available).
  • Awareness of professional standards and the responsibility to undertake safe and ethical clinical practice.
