We are looking for a dynamic and innovative speech and language therapist to join our team on the regional Inpatient Neuro Rehabilitation Unit (INRU). The team comprises of speech & language therapists, physiotherapists, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, dietitians, doctors, nurses, rehabilitation assistants, admin staff and skilled support staff all working together to achieve the best outcomes for our patients. You must enjoy working within an interdisciplinary team and be passionate about supporting adults with complex acquired neurological conditions to achieve their goals.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to provide assessment and treatment for patients with a variety of speech, language and swallowing needs as a result of complex neurological conditions. The caseload includes management of patients with tracheostomies and therefore support will be provided to complete RCSLT tracheostomy competencies. We are a progressive, expanding service with great ambition with a focus on delivering high quality patient centred care to our local communities. With this in mind it is an exciting time for the speech and language therapy team as we set up our in house FEES service, with all team members receiving CPD and supervision to support with this. Additional responsibilities include keyworking, supervision and support for more junior speech and language therapists, students and support staff/assistants. Excellent communication skills and flexibility are therefore essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As an organisation we prioritise and champion the health and well-being of staff. You will be provided with excellent training and development opportunities as well as a robust supervision and appraisal system. There are well-established team meetings and with CPD, project and development opportunities well supported. In this post you will be working closely as part of an established MDT on the Level 1 Inpatient Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit. You will have opportunity to develop your skills in assessment and management of complex acquired communication and swallowing impairment. You will also have the opportunity to gain competencies relating to management of tracheostomy and assessment of FEES.
Experience
- Significant experience in specialised clinical area
- Experience of assessing and treating complex neuro disability
- Experience in providing training to a range of qualified professionals in area of specialism
- Evidence of specialised management of a complex / diverse caseload
Skills/knowledge
- Able to develop specialised programmes of care
- Is able to use alternative means of communication appropriately for care group
- Has highly developed empathy, negotiation and influencing skills and demonstrates clinical leadership within a team.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and overcomes barriers to communication
- Have basic skills in the management of communication and swallowing needs in patients
