Band 4 Assistant Psychologist in Birmingham

We are an established Early Intervention in Psychosis service within BSMHFT. We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and compassionate Assistant Psychologist to join our dynamic Early Intervention Psychosis service based in the East of Birmingham and surrounding areas. The role involves supporting individuals between 16-35 and families experiencing their first episode of psychosis. You will have the opportunity to undertake direct clinical work under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, contribute to NICE concordant psychosocial interventions in addition to supporting the MDT with routine outcome data collection and service developments.

Main duties of the job:

• Supporting the clinical psychologist and MDT in psychological assessment, care provision, planning and delivery of evidence-based interventions.
• Supporting the MDT in delivering, managing and evaluating other psychological interventions, such as groups as required.
• Assisting the MDT with the collection and utilisation of routine outcome data.
• Undertaking supervised work with service users and their families on a one-to-one basis delivering psychosocial interventions.
• Assisting in administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of research projects, teaching and project work as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

• To support qualified Clinical Psychologists undertaking psychological assessments of service users applying psychologically based psychometric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service user’s, their caregivers, and other people within their system.
• To assist in the formulation and delivery of interventions under the supervision of qualified clinical psychologists, in the community, service user’s homes, and remote/virtual settings, as appropriate.
• Working under supervision, to provide one-to-one consultations with service users, working autonomously within the limits of this instruction and within personal competence.
• To use a degree of initiative and work independently with service users on planned work, and to exercise judgment based on good practice (NICE) and local operating procedures.
• To work with potentially distressing experiences, personal histories and presentations, including risk to self and others.
• Preparing agreed assessment reports accurately in the accepted format.
• Where required, to assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.

• To actively engage with regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.
• To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties through engagement with CPD opportunities and self-guided learning.
• To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the BPS and Trust policies and procedures.
• To keep abreast of current good practice and to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the service provided, in a spirit of openness to continued learning.

The post holder will be based at Washwood Heath Health & Wellbeing Centre. Travel around the Birmingham area will be required as the Early Intervention teamwork citywide. The candidate must have access to a reliable means of transportation to fulfil the role's duties effectively.
