Job overview
We are looking for a Band 6 midwife to work in the Maternity theatre team, to look after women and birthing partners on the Elective Caesarean section pathway. The main responsibilities for this role will be to provide women and babies with high quality, safe midwifery care during operative childbirth. The care will be evidence based and holistic in meeting women’s needs in the theatre setting.
Our maternity service provides excellent care for more than 6,000 women a year.

With a dedicated medical team of 15 consultants, our women who require specialised or complex care, will receive a Multidisciplinary approach, ensuring their expectations of the birthing experience are positive and maintained where possible.

Continuity of Carer remains an important evidence-based way of improving outcomes and experience for women and birthing people using our services. At Royal Bolton, we believe this is equally important for our women who undergo elective caesarean sections therefore, believe that dedicated maternity team will support with this implementation.
Main duties of the job
As a senior midwife, you will act as an advocate for the woman and birthing partner. You will be fully supportive of theatre etiquette and will be required to communicate effectively within an multidisciplinary team. You will be expected to manage a workload and support with the operational aspects of patient flow to ensure that theatre lists are kept to time. You will have excellent documentation skills and be able to maintain these to NMC standards. You will be required to escalate any safety concerns to the band 7 Coordinating Midwife or Matron.
Main duties will be to admit, prepare and care for birthing partners who are being looked after on the elective caesarean section pathway. This will involve the provision of offering a pre operative meeting to discuss the pathway of their caesarean section, going into theatre with them and providing their care whilst in theatre, and providing care for them in recovery. The role will require you to work in a fast-paced theatre environment, caring for multiple families daily.
