An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Children’s nurse to join an established team of Children’s Complex Care Nurses in Birmingham. This is a city wide service that offers personalised specialist nursing support to children & families with a variety of highly complex physical health needs.

We provide bespoke commissioned packages of care to children within their own homes, schools and other community locations. The service operates seven days a week and 24 hours a day.

If you are an experienced Children’s Nurse with enhanced clinical skills and have advanced communication skills you may be who we are looking for to join our busy team. This post will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop rewarding therapeutic relationships with children & families in a community setting.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering high quality nursing care according to agreed standards which are set and monitored.

Main duties of the job

In return the successful candidate will be offered opportunities to develop both clinically and professionally within a supportive environment and be encouraged to participate in service developments. Formal clinical supervision and a supported induction period will be provided.

Within this role you will be required to provide training and supervision to other members of the team including health care assistants as well as parents and family members ensuring their competence in meeting the care needs of specific children and young people. This client group has highly complex health needs which include children and young people that are technology dependent i.e. requiring invasive ventilation. The Children’s Complex Care Team forms part of the wider Specialist Nursing Service which includes Children’s Rapid Response, Children’s Palliative Care and the Children’s Community Nursing Team.

RSCN/ or RN Child Branch

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Registered Children’s, Adult or Learning Disabilities Nurse with an active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • ENB 998 (Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice) or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) within general management activities

Skills

  • Ability to manage team on a day to day basis in the absence of the Clinical / Team Leader
  • Evidence of assessment skills and use of nursing process and nurse models
  • Ability to lead complex services, setting clear direction and delivering service objectives.
  • Self‑motivated.
  • Positive, energetic, enthusiastic in outlook and able to set a good example
  • Evidence of strong leadership skills, the ability to negotiate, persuade and influence at a senior level with a supportive style whilst also able to take difficult decisions and act assertively
  • Keen to develop services in line with service, educational and research priorities with the service.

Experience

  • Significant experience of working as a Children’s Nurse either RSCN/RN Child
  • Evidence of excellent clinical and professional engagement.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) within general management activities
  • Significant experience and successful in-depth knowledge of staff management and the procedures and policies underpinning this.

In accordance with UK Home Office requirements, Band 2 clinical and non-clinical roles and Band 3 Non-Clinical roles are not eligible for sponsorship.

All non‑clinical roles (Agenda for Change Bands 7 – 9) that meet the prescribed skill level (RQF 6) and salary threshold will be eligible for sponsorship.

DBS Costs

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with the Trust will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary in 3 payments over a 3-month period once you start employment. By applying for this role, you are agreeing to these deductions being made. The charges for the DBS include the administration fee. The total costs are £26.40 for a standard check and £54.40 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for. For bank Workers the full cost of the DBS check (as detailed above) will be deducted from your pay following completion of your online mandatory training. No payment will be made for your online training until it is all complete and verified by the Temporary Staffing Team. Please note: You will not be able to work any bank shifts until you have completed your mandatory training, and your DBS is in place.
