Job overview:
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Providing effective, efficient supervision for the provision of the Portering service.
Main duties of the job:
- Responsible for the supervision of the Portering service within Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and to organise relief cover during periods of staff absence to ensure the standard of Portering service is maintained.
- To receive requests for Portering assistance and to delegate the staff required to carry out these duties.
- The Portering Supervisor will liaise with the Facilities Manager and Senior Supervisor.
- The Portering Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring IPDR & Mandatory Training is current and up to date.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
- Assist the Facilities Manager & Senior Supervisor with the development of the service, ensuring that this is achieved within the confines of the budget.
- Ensure that the requirements of the Health & Safety Act and all local rules and Policies/procedures that apply are implemented and followed.
- Maintain records of all Portering staff attendance/absence, i.e. sickness, Annual leaves etc. and draw attention to any areas of concern relating to high levels of absence.
- Check and counter sign weekly timesheets against work rotas and transfer this information onto the staff register.
- To supervise the day-to-day operation of Portering requirement of the Hospital.
- Deal with initial disciplinary and grievance matters in accordance with the Trust’s Policy and procedures.
- To undertake counselling of staff in accordance with the Trust’s policy and Procedure.
- To ensure staff are up to date with all mandatory training and to assist in the training/induction of staff.
- Ensure all ad-hoc work is carried out in an efficient manner wherever possible.
- Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff.
- Undertake Portering duties.
- Undertake daily checks of Medical gas levels, maintaining adequate stock levels and keeping record of all delivery notes.
- To carry cardiac arrest bleep and Supervisors Mobile phone and respond in accordance with the Trust policies and procedures.
- Report immediately, items for repair to 7500 and keep Facilities Manager informed on ongoing problems with equipment.
- To liaise with other Supervisors/Managers in the Estates and Facilities Directorate to maintain an efficient service.
- To ensure rotas and working hours are monitored and controlled within defined limits.
- To follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
Person specification:
Qualifications:
- Able to read and write.
- Basic Education to GCSE Grade 4 English and Mathematics.
- Demonstrable experience is advantageous.
- QCF Level 2 or willingness to work towards or relevant experience.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Desirable to have some experience of working in service industry.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Able to demonstrate basic knowledge of Health & Safety.
- Knowledge of NHS Portering standards.
Skills and Aptitudes:
- Demonstrate effective communication skills both verbally and written.
- Demonstrable Supervisory Experience.
- Able to support problem-solving processes.
