Band 5 Paediatric Staff Nurse - Emergency Department - Maternity cover until June 2027 in London

Hours: Full time/Part time, 37.5 hours per week (Will include unsociable shift pattern to cover a 24-hour service - nights and weekends)

Salary: £38,488 - £46,852 per annum inc HCAS (pro-rata)

Job overview:

Providing high quality nursing care and supporting team members to maintain best practice to all patients and visitors whilst following hospital and departmental policies. The safety of self, colleagues, patients and visitors in the Emergency Department. To support the emergency team, providing high quality nursing care. Sharing in and contributing to the management of the department. As skills and competencies develop, taking charge and actively participating in and contributing to the management of the ward or department on a regular basis. Supervising and mentoring junior staff.

Main duties of the job:

• Providing high quality nursing care and supporting team members to maintain best practice to all patients and visitors whilst following hospital and departmental policies.
• The safety of self, colleagues, patients and visitors in the Emergency Department.
• Working for our organisation with nearly 9,000 dedicated staff caring for patients around the clock.

Person specification:

• Registered Nurse: Paediatric with post registration experience or Adult trained with extensive experience in a paediatric acute care setting.
• 6 months post registration.
• Completion of preceptorship programme.
• Venepuncture.
• IV drug Administration.

• Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs.
• Ability to effectively prioritise workload and patient care needs.
• Demonstrates an understanding of managing resources.
• Demonstrates an understanding of clinical risk.
• Has worked in an acute environment.

• Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of research and evidence-based practice.
• Able to explain the principles of mentoring and assessing junior staff.
• Understands the importance of developing self and others.
• Demonstrates an understanding of audit.
• Ability to take on small research or audit project.
