Locum Consultant in Anaesthesia (10 PAs)

This is a full-time post and the post holder will be part of the department of Anaesthesia, in the Core Clinical Services Directorate. This is a 10 PA per week post. This position is a fixed term post with no on calls.

As a member of the anaesthetic department you will be expected to deliver specialist paediatric care throughout the perioperative period. This will include the preoperative preparation of patients, their intraoperative care and to ensure a safe postoperative environment.

Person specification

• GMC specialist registration with a Licence to Practice (obtained by designated start date)
• FRCA or equivalent
• CCT/CCST in Anaesthesia or equivalent training and experience (eligible for CESR)
• A year or more of recognised specialist paediatric anaesthesia training
• Higher degree - PhD, MD or equivalent
• Formal teaching qualification or evidence of experience
• Management qualification or evidence of experience

Experience/Knowledge

• Extensive experience in Paediatric Anaesthesia
• Experience of teaching students and multi-disciplinary team
• Experience of leading in Clinical Audit processes
• Published research in peer reviewed journals in relevant area
• Aware of the importance of Clinical Governance through experience of participating in quality or safety improvement projects
• Experience of recruiting patients to clinical research trials
• Experience of working in shared care clinics and clinical networks
• Experience of clinical leadership or management

Skills/Abilities

• High level written and oral communication skills
• Ability to organise and prioritise own workload
• Ability to work under pressure in a multi-disciplinary environment
• Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/organisational context
• Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills
• Ability to work on own initiative within an ever changing environment.
