Job overview
The Clinical Nurse Specialist will act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the multi- professional team, patients and carers within their Speciality Service. The post holder will have a responsibility to develop the specialist area of practice in partnership with other members of the speciality team will work collaboratively to develop services and improve the quality of care delivered. The post holder will carry responsibility for either a defined case load or offering "highly specialist service advise" this will include setting standards of care, the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, management and education. The post holder will contribute to achieving the objectives of the clinical service group / speciality corporate objectives and work within the clinical governance framework. This will be achieved through the core dimensions of the role, clinical practice, leadership, acting as the patient advocate and through audit and education.
Main duties of the job
counselling newly diagnosed eye cancer patients and maintaining the Holistic Needs Assessment
Carry out Pre-assessment and consent taking for oncology treatments and support the team with planning surgeries ensuring compliance with the 62day pathway
Take Consent for Bio-Bank research and be involved in any relevant research
Liaise with other Trusts / GP’s/opticians and multi disciplinary teams involved with the patients and their cancer journey
Effective communication and triaging for eye cancer patients, both pre and postoperative Via email or telephone.
Participation in the ocular oncology MDT
Carry out Fundus Fluoresceine angiography / photodynamic therapy/ prep for intravitreal injections and any other one stop treatment
