Exciting Opportunity Available for an enthusiastic and motivated Midwife to join the Women’s & Children’s Education Team. The role involves leading and implementing education, training and development strategies for Maternity areas. You will participate in Midwifery development/mandatory programmes and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Use your specialist skills to support clinical staff both working clinically and by more formal training. You will be involved in new educational initiatives, professional & clinical development and managing projects. You will be an experienced Band 6/7 Midwife with extensive experience in all maternity areas. You will be clinically competent, a student assessor and have evidence of post-registration development. The successful candidate would need to demonstrate a confirmed interest in and experience of initiatives in education and staff development, good IT skills, and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider team of educators.
Main duties of the job:
- Support the Education and Practice Development Lead in implementing education, training and practice development strategies.
- Support the concept of continuing professional development through the delivery of relevant programmes of education and training across all areas of maternity.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of education, training and development through audit, governance and staff feedback.
- Work clinically alongside registered and non-registered staff promoting and delivering education practice and the implementation of policies to ensure a workforce 'fit for purpose' and 'fit for practice'.
- Contribute to the management of the CMG Study Leave Budget by monitoring access via the UHL Non-Medical Study Leave Policy.
- Actively facilitate staff development and support through clinical supervision and act as a supervisor and mentor.
- Communicate effectively with the Education and Practice Development Team (CMG and Trust), Senior Midwives/Matrons, Clinical Teams, Medical and AHP staff and CMG Management Teams.
- Share best practice in the clinical area and outside of the CMG.
- Work clinically and effectively with ward staff to deliver education, training and ensure development is linked to their Appraisal/PDP and needs of the service.
- Promote team working within the clinical area and across the multi-professional team.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of mandatory training, and monitoring of training compliance.
- Work collaboratively with Patient Safety & Patient Improvement teams, to create and maintain safe, patient-centred maternity care.
Person specification:

- Training & Qualifications: Registered Midwife, Recognised NMC Teaching and Assessing Qualification or equivalent, First Degree, Working towards a Master’s Degree in relevant area.
- Experience: Suitable Post-Registration clinical experience to include relevant speciality Education and Practice experience, Knowledge of nurse/midwife AHP education and clinical practice, Evidence of the development and delivery of education/training programmes, Evidence of innovations and achievements in clinical practice, Evidence of continued professional development, Experience at Band 6/7 Level, Previous experience of education/practice development.
- Communication and relationship skills: Teaching/assessment skills, Effective communicator, Leadership & motivation skills, Evidence of audit and change management ability, Motivate self/others, Supervise, educate and develop others.
