Trust Specialty Doctor (SAS) in Histopathology in High Wycombe

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) is an integrated provider of acute hospital and community services for people living in Buckinghamshire and the surrounding area. We care for over half a million patients every year.

Applications are invited to apply for a Trust Specialty Doctor (SAS) in Histopathology to work in the Department of Cellular Pathology at the Wycombe Hospital, High Wycombe. The post is available to start ASAP and is a Full Time vacancy. This is a newly created permanent post. All applicants MUST hold a Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice in the UK.

Main duties of the job:

• The successful candidate will participate in the macroscopic investigation of a wide range of histopathological specimens independently.
• Carry out cut up duties according to the departmental rotation.
• Supervise and train registrars and biomedical scientists in cut up.
• Opportunity to report independently depending on qualifications and experience.
• Participation in MDTs and presenting cases when needed under consultant supervision.

The successful candidate must have GMC registration, MBBS (or equivalent), FRCPath Part 1/2 and a minimum of 5 years training in histopathology. The candidate must have at least 2 years of UK Histopathology experience. The post has no on call requirement and working hours are weekdays between 9am-5pm.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

• The post holder will be involved in the organisation of the rota of the department and opportunities will be available to learn about general laboratory management and administration.
• Work alongside 12 Cellular Pathology Consultants, 2 Specialty doctors and 5 Specialist registrars (ST2-ST5) on the Thames Valley Deanery rotation.
• Competent in cutting-up all benign cases and most complex cancers without consultant supervision.
• Independent cut up as well as training and supervising resident doctors and biomedical scientists in cut are the main responsibilities of the job.
• Some opportunity to do reporting of cases depending on experience and rota arrangement.
• Participate in departmental audits.

Person specification:

• MBBS or equivalent
• FRCPath Part 1
• Full registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC)
• FRCPath Part 2
