The Paediatric Service is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Consultant Paediatrician to work full time at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.

The Trust is committed to working in partnership with colleagues in the Tees Valley Integrated Care Partnership and wider North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care System. As such, the team will work as part of a wider network at times to strengthen care pathways and support ongoing workforce development.

Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Paediatrician, who will primarily be based at the University Hospital of North Tees, Stockton, but with the opportunity to work cross-site at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

The appointee will join a full time NHS Consultant Group. The position includes consultant of the week covering general paediatrics and level one neonates.

They will have commitments to the Children & Young People’s Emergency Department (CYPED), Special Care Baby Unit and will conduct clinics in Hartlepool, Stockton, or Peterlee bases.

The on-call cover is expected to be on the hybrid rota where during weekdays they contribute to part of 1 in 7 on-call cover and part of 1 in 6 resident cover. This ratio may change and will be discussed in Job planning meeting.

The successful candidate is also expected to provide cover on weekends as on-call and as resident cover (Pro-rata). This will also be discussed in the Job plan meeting.

Person specification

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of and training in child protection
  • Evidence of clinical audit
  • Evidence of research or innovative service developments
  • Evidence of management and administration experience

Qualifications & Training

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • The applicant must produce evidence that he/she is either on the UK Specialist Register or within 6 months of specialist registration date, and is expected to achieve specialist registration
  • APLS or EPLS provider
  • A higher qualification
  • Management course for clinicians
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent

Experience

  • General paediatric experience in both secondary and tertiary care
  • Experience of supervising junior medical staff
  • Evidence of clinical skills to fulfill the general elements of this job
  • A special interest that will complement the needs of the department eg paediatric cardiology, epilepsy, gastroenterology but any other interests will also be considered
  • 6/12 Experience in PICU during training
  • Experience in managing paediatric patients in MDT setting
  • Teaching Experience

Disclosure and Barring Checks (DBS)

It is the policy of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, that all successful candidates who are new to the Trust who require DBS clearance for the post they have been offered, are required to pay the cost for their DBS certificate. The method of payment for this is via salary deduction from your first month's pay on commencement with the Trust. The DBs check will be undertaken during the pre-employment check screening.

New Starters – Probationary Period

For any new employees commencing employment with North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, you will be subject to satisfactory completion of a 6 month probationary period. Please note that internal applications and individuals that are appointed to fixed term appointments of less than 6 months duration are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or a bank member of staff).
