The post holder will play a central role in the organisation, development and delivery of high-quality undergraduate medical student education within the Colorectal service at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB). Working in partnership with the Specialty Teaching Lead for Undergraduate Medical Education and the Undergraduate Medical Education Department, the post holder will support the delivery of a comprehensive and engaging clinical placement experience for University of Nottingham medical students. This includes facilitating structured teaching sessions, supporting clinical learning in practice, and contributing to the assessment and examination processes.

Main duties of the job:

• Support the delivery of a high-quality undergraduate teaching programme within the colorectal service, ensuring students receive a structured, supportive and clinically relevant learning experience.
• Facilitate student learning in clinical environments and ensure achievement of placement objectives.
• Coordinate with clinical teams to provide access to learning opportunities (clinics, theatres, ward rounds).
• Support student assessment, examinations and provide constructive feedback.
• Act as a key point of contact for students, offering guidance and signposting to support services where required.
• Contribute to the development, evaluation and improvement of the teaching programme.
• Maintain high standards of specialist colorectal clinical practice and model best practice.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary and medical education teams to support delivery of high-quality teaching.
• Participate in relevant education meetings and contribute to programme development.

Qualifications:

• Registered clinical practitioner with post-registration experience at Band 6 or above in a relevant clinical area.
• Evidence of ongoing CPD and recent clinical practice.
• Teaching/education qualification (e.g. PGCert, 998, LIPS or equivalent).

Skills:

• Ability to deliver teaching to a range of audiences in varied environments.
• Ability to communicate complex or sensitive information effectively to different professional groups.
• Understanding of adult learning principles and overcoming barriers to learning.
• Demonstrates clinical leadership and change management skills within a multidisciplinary team.

Experience:

• Experience of using audit and/or research to inform and influence clinical practice.
• Demonstrable experience of implementing and supporting change in practice through education, training and staff engagement.
• Experience of teaching or supporting the development of healthcare students or staff.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills:

• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
• Ability to present confidently in both small and large group settings.
• Ability to build effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
