An opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Dentist to join our Primary Care Dental Service has arisen as a Band A Dental Officer.

This is an opportunity to be working in a well equipped, modern surgery in an attractive location, well supported by Specialists, highly experienced dental nurses, Operations manager and Clinical Director.

This is an exciting 10 Months Fixed Term, Band A Dental Officer job, Part-time (0.8 WTE) 4 Day, 32 Hours Maternity Leave cover.

This role primarily involves delivering a combination of special care and paediatric dentistry for referred patients, many of whom have Additional Needs.

As a valued member of our clinical team, you’ll provide high quality dental care to special care adults and children with various Additional Needs and/or disabilities. Our service is also dedicated to assisting medically compromised patients who require treatment in a specialised setting, as well as supporting anxious children. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to bring your expertise directly to patients in their homes, nursing, and care settings.

Main duties of the job

You’ll offer a full range of NHS oral health services, ensuring every patient receives the best care possible. Whether it's performing high-quality treatments under local anaesthesia, managing behaviour, or administering sedation your role will be crucial. Your expertise in pain and anxiety management will be pivotal, especially for patients with Additional Needs.

Ideally you will have advanced knowledge and expertise demonstrated by a postgraduate dental qualification and/or relevant experience in Special Care or Paediatric Dentistry, and will contribute to the planning and development of services and colleagues, whilst monitoring performance activity.

Person specification

Qualifications and Training

• BDS or equivalent degree (prizes, awards, distinctions)
• Full registration with the GDC
• A current Full UK driving license and car user
• Evidence of entitlement to live and work in the UK
• Evidence of an up to date completed CPD log
• Previous experience in general practice/hospital/CDS or PDS.
• Experience of working within the Salaried Dental Service with active involvement in service development.
• Previous involvement in epidemiological surveys
• A relevant post graduate qualification (would be desirable)
• Evidence of a verified sedation (IHS/IV) performers log

Experience

• Understanding the principles of evidence-based dentistry and evidence of application within clinical practice.
• Evidence of excellent professional practice in special needs dentistry to include equivalent experience of treating patients with management problems and high treatment needs.

Clinical Knowledge and Skills

• Organisational skills including evidence of ability to prioritise workload.
• Ability to lead by example and motivate a team.
• Evidence of leadership skills, including the ability to manage support and ancillary staff
• Experience of teaching junior staff, undergraduate dentists’ or ancillary staff.
• Evidence of changed practice

Clinical Governance and Audit

• Evidence of commitment to continuing postgraduate professional development.
• Participation in audit programmes practice through clinical audit programme.

Personal Abilities and Aptitudes

• Ability to lead by example and motivate a team.
• Evidence of leadership skills, including the ability to manage support and ancillary staff
• Experience of teaching junior staff, undergraduate dentists’ or ancillary staff.
