A major commercial vehicle manufacturer is looking for a number of HGV Technicians, overtime is also available. Role : HGV Technician Location: Hayes Salary: £18 to £22 per hour Hours: 42.5 per week Shifts: Alternate 6am to 3:30pm, 1:30pm to 10pm Benefits: Overtime: 130% overtime can do every Saturday or every other Saturday, loads of work , 24 days annual leave per year, Carry over up to 5 days annual leave per year 1 x Life Assurance, Duvet Day, Company Pensions contribution of up to 5%, Private Medical Insurance, Attractive over time rates of up to 130%, Bonus, incentives and commission schemes, Further Education Assistance Bonus: monthly based on productivity & efficiency REQS: Must possess a mechanical or technician background in commercial vehicles, and either have experience of IRTEC, BTEC or City & Guilds qualifications. Must have managed technicians previously in a fast paced workshop. The Role As an HGV Technician you are responsible for the maintenance, service, and repair of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). You ensure that all vehicles are maintained to a high safety and performance standard, identifying and repairing any mechanical or electrical issues. The Specifics Perform detailed vehicle inspections to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment. Assess issues related to engines, transmissions, brake systems, and other critical components of HGVs. Conduct repairs on various vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and suspension. Carry out routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire checks and replacements, and fluid top-ups. Implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and enhance vehicle reliability. Monitor and record vehicle performance to anticipate potential problems and schedule timely interventions. Communicate effectively with the Workshop Controller and the services team to explain repairs and maintenance needs. Keep abreast of the latest developments in HGV technology and repair techniques. Participate in ongoing training and certification programs to maintain technical skills. Provide detailed cost estimates and timelines for repairs and services. Ensure that all repairs and maintenance work complies with safety regulations and company standards. Perform post-repair inspections and test drives to confirm the effectiveness of repairs. Maintain accurate service records, including work performed, parts used, and labor hours. Use computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for logging and tracking repair and maintenance activities. Ensure Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices are adhered to Provide cover on rota system for breakdown cover Some important characteristics we are looking for Current driving licence Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and repair equipment specific to HGVs. Strong mechanical and electrical repair skills. Excellent problem-solving abilities. Good communication and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Awareness and understanding of health and safety requirements Computer literate HGV licence (desired but not essential) Fork Lift Licence (FLT) (desired but not essential) Ability to lift heavy components and perform physically demanding tasks. Capability to work in various conditions, including outdoor environments and in confined spaces.
