A major UK and International Commercial Vehicle manufacturer is looking for a Group Health & Safety Manager to manage H&S, risk assessments etc on seven of their sites ranging from Cheshire through the Midlands, London, Berkshire, Essex, etc. Looking for someone based in the South of England. There will be regular travel to all sites, some with an overnight stay required.
Must possess some automotive sector H&S experience, there will be storage facilities, offices, and automotive commercial vehicle workshops.

LOCATION: South, anywhere in London, Essex, Kent, Berkshire, Bucks, Beds, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Oxfordshire etc.
Management: Managing one direct report.
ROLE: The purpose of this role is to assist the Management Team in the development and implementation of the Groups Health and Safety strategy and framework. It also exists to develop and maintain standards and compliance programs within all our UK Legal Entities as well as providing counsel and advice to our Business and contractors. The role would also assist the Management Team in the assurance of the sustainability of the business through regularly auditing and measuring our performance to ensure we are meeting our own standards and legislative obligations in a timely manner.
The role will require frequent Business travel to all our sites in the Southeast of England, and occasional overnight stays.
- Act as referent and expertise point for any Environmental, Health and Safety requirements and requests.
- Review, develop, implement and monitor an effective Health and Safety Strategic Plan, designed to our business needs.
- Consistently evaluate progress and effectiveness of H&S strategy and alter to improve approach and maximise potential.
- Lead the business performance and growth of H&S strategy and culture.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, including legislation, national and international standards and codes of practice, and ensure that these are integrated into the Groups H&S mission and policies.
- Ensure that business units and site management are coached and mentored in the implementation and delivery of desired Environmental Health & Safety results.
- Implement an online H&S training portal for all Group employees, and champion the tool and benefits to Business Management.
- Manage a programme of health and safety audits, that includes scheduled and unscheduled audits, across sites reviewing against the requirements of legislation, company guidelines and safety management plans.
- Oversee the identification and mitigation of hazards and the reporting and investigation of incidents.
- Monitor the implementation of actions arising from investigations to ensure their completion within agreed timeframes.
- Ensure that emergency management plans are in place across all sites; employees are trained to the required level and understand their roles; plans are functionally tested and reviewed regularly through management of emergency exercises.
- Oversight of the investigation of serious incidents carrying out subsequent review or changes to the relevant Site Safety Management Plans.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- MUST POSSESS AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGEMENT, RISK ASSESSMENT EXPERIENCE AND MANAGED AT LEAST ONE DIRECT REPORT.
- Degree educated or equivalent in Health and Safety, ideally with previous experience in a similar strategic role, with Group accountability.
- IOSH Essential, hopefully NEBOSH.
- Working knowledge of the UK regulatory requirements and administrative frameworks and experience in dealing with regulators relating to Health and Safety.
- Experience in developing, implementing and managing a Health and Safety Management System.
- Proven capability in achieving health and safety performance improvement and experience leading cultural change within Health and Safety.
- Experience in issues management and risk mitigation.
- An ability to analyse health and safety data and trends.
