A major UK & International Freight Forwarding company is looking to add a Freight Import Customer Services Operator to their expanding team. The ideal candidate must possess excellent customer service skills plus freight experience, preferably in Road freight but will take people with Air or Ocean/Sea. They will look at anyone with any freight experience in any mode of transport and provide full training.

ROLE: A Customer Service role in the international freight import department has become available. The role will focus on supporting our European partners with enquiries and order management on bookings from our UK based customers.

The person we are looking for must be a good communicator, have a positive outlook and a clear focus on high job quality. The successful candidate, who will be reporting to the customer service supervisor, will be responsible for dealing with bookings from UK customers and handling day-to-day enquiries related to UK import shipments, investigating issues and liaising with other internal departments.

The applicant must be proactive, organised and punctual, inquisitive and motivated as well as having good attention to detail. The main part of the job is to deal with bookings received from customers and support European partners, investigate and respond to enquiries related to the shipments from Europe into the UK mainly via email and phone.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Timely and effective communication with customers, partners and internal departments via email/telephone.
  • Updating/verifying the Order Management System with customer booking details and customs details.
  • Liaising with operations and overseas offices to ensure customer commitments are delivered upon.
  • Effective monitoring to ensure deliveries are completed within the agreed timelines.
  • Ensuring that all collection consignments conform to correct information.
  • Pro-active problem solving with customers and colleagues when issues arise.
  • Complying with and understanding customs regulations when transporting freight into the UK.
  • Resolving Credit Management Queries where necessary.
  • General day-to-day administrative duties.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Must possess some freight experience, ideally road import customer services but can be import or export, road, air or sea/ocean. Also, excellent customer service experience and attention to detail are essential.
