About the Business
Join a well-respected manufacturing company based in Worcester, off junction 7 of the M5. As the Financial Controller you’ll act as the finance leader for the Worcester site, combining full financial control responsibilities with hands-on plant accounting. The role is a key member of the site leadership team and a true business partner to operations, providing insight, challenge and control to drive site performance.
Main Duties:
- Leading, developing and mentoring the site finance team
- Full ownership of the site P&L, balance sheet and cash flow
- Management of the finance team and help develop that function
- Be a key part of the senior leadership team for the site, supporting directors
- Preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary against budget and forecast
- Delivery of group reporting
- Leading the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasts
- Balance sheet integrity, including monthly reconciliations and review
- Management of the year-end audit process and liaison with external auditors
- Maintaining and strengthening the internal control environment
- Cash management, working capital optimisation and capital expenditure appraisal and control
- Standard costing: setting, maintaining and reviewing standard costs, labour and overhead recovery rates
- Analysis of manufacturing variances (material usage, labour efficiency, overhead absorption, purchase price variance) with clear actions for operations
- Inventory accounting and control, including cycle counting, stock provisions, WIP valuation and physical inventory oversight
- Product costing and margin analysis to support pricing, quoting and make/buy decisions
- Business partnering with the Site General Manager, Operations, Engineering and Supply Chain to drive cost reduction and productivity improvement
- Financial evaluation of capital investment proposals and tracking of returns
- Development of site KPIs and performance dashboards linking operational metrics to financial outcomes
- Acting as a key finance contact, supporting alignment of policies, reporting, and systems
- Driving continuous improvement in finance processes, systems and use of ERP
- Providing financial input to the site leadership team on strategy, risk and opportunity

The ideal candidate will have:
Essential- Fully qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA or CIMA
- Proven financial controller or plant/site controller experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong technical grounding in standard costing, inventory accounting and manufacturing variance analysis
- Experience producing full monthly management accounts and leading budgeting/forecasting cycles
- Hands-on ERP experience and strong Excel/analytical skills
- A confident business partner able to challenge and influence operational stakeholders
- High integrity with a strong controls mindset
- Experience in manufacturing sectors
- Experience of business integration, acquisition or finance transformation projects
- People management experience with a track record of developing finance teams
