This is a great opportunity for a Financial Accountant to join a genuinely good SME business in Shrewsbury. Main Duties:
- Maintain accurate, timely financial records and support the Head of Finance across day-to-day financial accounting activities.
- Deliver the monthly close, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Prepare VAT returns and support wider tax reporting requirements.
- Produce monthly management accounts, forecasts, cash flow reports and supporting analysis.
- Maintain budgets and forecasts, ensuring all entries are supported by clear working papers for audit and review.
- Ensure effective reconciliations between finance systems and related operational systems.
- Support year-end processes, including statutory accounts, audits and external reporting.
- Identify and manage financial risks, maintaining strong financial controls and value for money.
- Review monthly payroll outputs to resolve issues prior to payment.
- Prepare KPI and management reporting for senior stakeholders.
- Support business planning, budgeting and scenario modelling.
- Line manage and support a junior finance team member and provide cover across the wider finance team as required.

The role offers a hybrid working pattern, with three days per week based in the company’s modern Shrewsbury office and the remainder working from home. What We Are Looking For
- Ideally ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified, though qualified by experience candidates with strong financial accounting experience are equally considered.
- Solid background in financial accounting, including month-end close, reconciliations and management accounts.
- Confident with VAT preparation and supporting statutory and audit processes.
- Hands-on, detail-focused and comfortable working in a growing SME environment.
