About the Business

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded finance leader to join a well-established and growing logistics business as a Financial Controller. Based in Bromyard, you will be working in a fast-paced, operationally focused environment. The Financial Controller role offers genuine ownership and influence, working closely with senior leadership to drive financial performance. This is a truly commercial role with a real chance to impact the business.

Main Duties

  • Be the main business partner to the operations teams and senior management.
  • Drive profitability and efficiency with finance in mind.
  • Lead and develop a small finance team across two business entities, embedding strong controls, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee accurate and timely monthly management accounts, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP and statutory requirements including VAT, PAYE and audit.
  • Take responsibility for payroll, cash flow forecasting, working capital and asset finance.
  • Drive improvements in finance systems, processes and reporting to enhance efficiency and data integrity.
  • Act as a commercial business partner to senior operational leaders, providing insight, challenge and decision support.
  • Own the Profit & Loss for both businesses, focusing on profitability, cost control and performance improvement.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting, develop and monitor KPIs, and deliver clear variance analysis.
  • Provide financial input into pricing, tenders and major contracts to support sustainable growth.

Location / Office / Culture

The role is based at the company's offices in Bromyard, offering a collaborative and down-to-earth working environment. The business promotes a flexible hybrid model, with an expectation of around three days per week in the office to support team engagement and effective collaboration. The culture is practical, commercially focused and supportive, with a strong emphasis on trust and delivering results in a fast-paced logistics environment.

What We Are Looking For

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a minimum of two years' post-qualification experience. Commercially based QBEs will be considered.
  • Proven experience in a senior commercial finance role within a fast-paced SME environment; exposure to project-based, logistics, events or hospitality sectors would be advantageous.
  • Strong commercial mindset with a track record of operating as a business partner, constructively challenging senior stakeholders and driving performance through KPIs.
  • Confident people leader and communicator, able to build credibility, influence across functions and manage teams effectively.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills, with experience using modern accounting and finance systems.
