A fantastic opportunity to join a global services business based in Birmingham as an Assistant Financial Accountant. Main Duties:
- Supporting the month-end close process, preparing balance sheet reconciliations and helping to identify and resolve discrepancies using the team’s dedicated close software.
- Helping to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, ensuring balance sheet controls are properly applied, reviewed and signed off.
- Assisting the Financial Reporting team with delivery of annual financial statements and monthly Group reporting requirements.
- Maintaining the fixed asset register and completing monthly reconciliations between the general ledger and fixed asset records.
- Working alongside CAPEX owners to prepare capital expenditure budgets and depreciation forecasts, along with monthly variance analysis.
- Contributing to an ongoing lease accounting transition project, including data analysis, implementing accounting adjustments and embedding new processes into everyday practice.
- Partnering with financial and non-financial stakeholders across the business, providing analysis and insight to support commercial decision-making.
- Identifying opportunities to streamline processes and increase automation across the finance function.
- Helping to monitor and strengthen financial controls, reducing risk and maintaining compliance.
- Supporting the external audit process, preparing schedules and responding to auditor queries.
- Getting involved in ad hoc projects, including accounting for capital projects and other cross-team initiatives.
Location / Office / Culture
The role is hybrid, with 3 days in the office and 2 days at home, based at the company’s Birmingham office. You’ll join a busy, collaborative finance function with genuine support for professional development and study, and plenty of exposure to different areas of the business.
What We Are Looking For
- Actively studying towards ACCA or CIMA.
- Good technical knowledge of accounting standards, which is essential for this role.
- Fixed asset experience is desirable, but not essential.
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems.
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable explaining financial information clearly to a range of stakeholders.
- An adaptable, proactive approach with a solutions-focused mindset.
