Qualifications:
- CWB Welding Supervisor Certificate
- CWB Welding Inspector Level 1 Certificate (an asset)
- 6G TSSA Pipe Welding Certification (an asset)
- 1G TSSA Structural Welding Certification (an asset)
- Supervisor training (an asset)
- Thorough understanding of CSA W47.1
- 3 years+ experience in welding/fabrication environment
- 3 years+ experience in a manufacturing supervisory position
- Experience with TSSA/CWB welding tickets
- Ability to interpret weld symbols and nomenclature
- Ability to interpret manufacturing drawings, piping and instrumentation drawings, general arrangement drawings and pipe drawings
- Ability to inspect welds to ensure compliance with codes and standards, checking for weld sizes, weld finish, cracks, overlap, undercut and/or splatter
- Able to multi-task and prioritise workloads
- Ability to use an overhead crane (must have)
- Ability to drive a forklift (an asset)
- Good attendance record
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supervision of welding department activities ranging from production, continuous improvement of welding activities, and overseeing staff (fitters, welders, etc.)
- Ensure operation activities are accomplished at or above budgeted efficiency
- Ensure implementation of and compliance with the quality program – reducing waste by identifying problems and implementing corrective measures
- Responsible for meeting written housekeeping standards in assigned area and reinforcing the importance of keeping the working area clean and organised
- Ensure departmental cost expenditure is effective
- Hire, evaluate, and discipline/terminate employees (as needed)
- Ensure employees are trained properly to perform their tasks
- Develop/maintain positive relationships with suppliers and customers
- Work closely with internal Customer Service Rep, Scheduler, Sales person, and Product Development Engineer as needed towards the goal of delivering quality product on time to customers
- Ensure implementation of and compliance with OHSA, Fire Code, safety code and internal regulations and policies
- Attend any injury/loss/incident investigation in the department
- Ensure PPE is worn when required
- Assist in orientation of new employees to the department and ensure they are properly trained to perform their assigned tasks on an ongoing basis
- Continue to improve personal capabilities by reading relevant business and technical literature, attending seminars, training courses, etc.
- Perform duties in a timely manner
