Field-based: Work is conducted on-site at customer locations.

We are seeking a Tail Lift Engineer. Thermo King UK delivers comprehensive maintenance services for tail lifts, including three scheduled services per year, one of which includes a weight test and all required LOLER Statutory Thorough Examinations. Our full maintenance package can be reviewed and tailored to meet individual customer needs. The service also covers breakdown support both in and out of hours, including parts, labour, call‑outs, travel, and mileage. Damage and operational errors are excluded.

Location: Candidates for this position should be based in the surrounding areas of Northampton, Milton Keynes, or Cambridge.

What You Will Do:

  • Servicing and repair of tail lift, double deck, VBG, Shutter door equipment, limiting costs of stock used on contract accounts and maximizing revenue generation in all areas.
  • Optimize and maintain engineer van stock to maintain and enhance service delivery to customers.
  • Ensure relevant safety checks are carried out on the company van on a daily basis.
  • Maintain product and customer requirements knowledge to always meet ISO9002 standards.
  • Liaise with the service center regarding job start and completion times, downtime and overtime authorization, cost updates, and customer purchase orders.
  • Complete all relevant paperwork and online (PDA) requirements enabling central control and invoicing to maintain a high standard of customer interface – keeping the customer informed.
  • Ensure adherence to company procedures in line with company policies, Health & Safety procedures and ISO9002 standards.
  • Ensure customer service is a priority, and conduct and corporate image (self, van, tools, spares) are first rate.
  • Promote and generate business with existing or potential customers.
  • Provide technical help or assistance to customers and other TK personnel as required.
  • Undertake company training (at our dedicated training Center in Tamworth) if required and self-development through attendance on manufacturers' courses, company online courses (E-Learning) certification processes.
  • Perform other duties and projects which correspond to the general character of the position.

What You Will Bring:

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including Maths and English.
  • NVQ qualification in hydraulics/electrics (desirable) or equivalent experience working to manufacturer standards.
  • Experienced Tail Lift and Commercial Engineer.
  • Commercial experience working with electro‑mechanical systems, including engines, compressors, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Skilled in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems.
  • Welding certification.
  • STE/Weight Test certification.
  • Able to work independently in a safe and professional manner, maintaining customer units and company property to the highest standards.
  • IT literate (Microsoft Office), able to use a palmtop computer (with training).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills and relationship-building skills.
  • Methodical and systematic approach to work.
  • Commitment to high standards of customer service and professionalism.
  • Punctuality, efficient and target driven.

This role requires extensive travel and working on customer sites. You will need to be physically fit to perform required tasks. There is also a requirement for participation in additional on-call roster, including overtime, working nights and weekends (for which enhanced payment is offered).
