Introducing the Trainline Supply Platform & AI Enablement Team
The Supply Platform & AI Enablement team sits within Trainline’s Core Experience pillar and plays a critical role in shaping how supply is integrated, managed, and scaled across the Trainline platform. As rail liberalisation accelerates across Europe and new operators continue to enter the market, the team is focused on building scalable, resilient, and future-ready platform capabilities that enable Trainline to onboard and manage supply efficiently across rail and coach markets.

As the Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead multiple engineering teams responsible for evolving the architecture, tooling, and operational capabilities that power Trainline’s supply ecosystem. This is a highly strategic leadership role focused on platform modernisation, organisational scalability, and the adoption of AI-enabled and agentic workflows to improve engineering efficiency and operational effectiveness. Working closely with Engineering, Product, Data Science, Commercial, and Supply stakeholders, you will help shape the long-term technical vision for the domain while fostering high-performing, collaborative teams that can confidently navigate complexity, growth, and change.

In this role as the Senior Engineering Manager, Supply Platform & AI Enablement, you will...

  • Lead multiple engineering teams and Engineering Managers, supporting growth and development through coaching, feedback, and inclusive leadership practices
  • Define and drive the long-term technical vision for how supply is integrated, managed, and scaled across the Trainline platform
  • Own end-to-end delivery across the Supply Platform domain, ensuring initiatives deliver measurable operational and business impact
  • Partner closely with Product, Data Science, Commercial, and Supply stakeholders to align technical strategy with evolving customer, platform, and business needs
  • Drive the adoption of AI-enabled and agentic workflows across engineering and operational processes, identifying practical opportunities to improve scalability, automation, and efficiency
  • Lead large-scale platform modernisation and architectural transformation initiatives, balancing long-term strategic investment with pragmatic delivery priorities
  • Provide technical leadership across platform architecture, APIs, system interactions, and operational workflows, helping teams make effective and sustainable technical decisions
  • Champion engineering excellence by promoting resilient, observable, and scalable systems, while fostering a culture of experimentation, continuous learning, and operational improvement

We'd love to hear from you if you have...

  • Significant experience leading multiple engineering teams and delivering complex, cross-functional initiatives within platform, distributed systems, or large-scale technology environments
  • A strong track record of building inclusive, high-performing engineering organisations and developing future engineering leaders through coaching and mentorship
  • Experience leading platform modernisation, architectural transformation, or large-scale technical change programmes within operationally complex environments
  • The ability to balance long-term technical strategy with pragmatic delivery, operational excellence, and evolving business priorities
  • Experience applying AI, automation, or intelligent workflow capabilities within engineering or operational domains, with an interest in how emerging technologies can improve scalability and efficiency
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across Engineering, Product, Data Science, Commercial, and Operational teams
  • Confidence navigating ambiguity and complexity, bringing clarity, alignment, and momentum across teams and initiatives
  • Experience working with APIs, distributed systems, platform architectures, or integration-heavy environments, and ideally exposure to platform engineering, workflow orchestration, or operational automation capabilities
