Empowering people to make greener travel choices is central to our focus in 2025 and beyond. And it’s the unique blend of innovation, creativity, technology and customer-first experiences we’ve developed that are the core principles to our world class Design team. Led by our Design Director (previously leading UX teams at IDEO & Samsung), the team are laser focused on building the world’s #1 rail platform benefiting our communities and our world by reducing congestion and our collective carbon footprint - we believe our work has a genuine impact and will change travel for the better.

As a Junior UX Designer at Trainline you will:

  • Join a team focused on improving customer experiences across Trainline’s products, creating thoughtful, tech-enabled solutions that enhance the traveller journey while also supporting Trainline’s commercial goals and overall business performance.
  • Leverage emerging technologies, including AI, machine learning, and large language models, to anticipate traveller needs, deliver timely support, and create more intuitive, personalised traveller care, which are driven by data and meeting diverse customer needs across multiple markets.
  • Balance great customer experiences with an awareness of how design choices can influence key business metrics such as conversion, engagement, and retention.
  • Work closely with Product, Research, Data, and Engineering in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You’ll contribute from early, ambiguous discovery phases all the way to crafting and delivering pixel perfect, high-impact features.
  • Collaborate with fellow designers to shape a seamless, end-to-end travel experience that aligns with Trainline's overarching vision and strategy.
  • You’ll be supported but critically empowered to operate independently, executing against the end-to-end design process to deliver innovative and visually polished tactical solutions, as well as contribute to Trainline’s overall strategy.
  • You’ll understand the power and importance of quantitative data to assess the impact of design, and draw insights to iterate and optimise experience, playing back your explorations with clear narratives, woven together with data and research.
  • You should be passionate about product design and looking for an opportunity to disrupt and define a product that is changing the way we travel and inspiring millions of people across the UK and Europe to make more environmentally sustainable travel choices every day.

We’re looking for creative big thinkers with small egos to achieve our committed plans. Most importantly, you’ll bring exceptional delivery within a fast-paced consumer-focused tech or travel business. You might be a couple of years into your Design career, or you might be just starting out. If this sounds like you, then do apply.

Qualifications:

  • Communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to explain design decisions in terms of user needs and their potential impact on product or business goals.
  • Solid UX thinking as well as UI visuals, working independently to solve for real user needs on web and app.
  • Understand how to use data and customer insights to validate ideas and drive positive customer behaviour.
  • Awareness of data-informed experimentation principles such as A/B or multivariate testing, and an interest in learning how experimentation connects design decisions to measurable outcomes.
  • Hands-on, action-oriented approach to solving creative challenges, inspiring creativity and design excellence within the team.
  • A self-starter mentality with strong collaboration skills with Engineers, Product Managers, and broader business teams.
  • Proficiency in Figma for day-to-day design work, previous experience with using AI, machine learning, and large language models within design solutions, is a plus.

Enjoy fantastic perks like private healthcare & dental insurance, a generous work from abroad policy, 2-for-1 share purchase plans, an EV Scheme to further reduce carbon emissions, extra festive time off, and excellent family-friendly benefits.

We prioritise career growth with clear career paths, transparent pay bands, personal learning budgets, and regular learning days. Jump on board and supercharge your career from day one!
