This role can be based in either our London or Edinburgh offices and is a 6 month fixed term contract.

We are looking for an analytical Management Accountant with a drive for process improvement to join our vibrant and dynamic Finance function. This role will have a strong emphasis on the reporting, accounting and cash settlement of our European Train Carrier Liabilities (including SNCF and TrenItalia) and requires building effective reconciliations and presenting analysis at the end of each reporting period.

The ideal candidate will act as a key link between financial and commercial functions, ensuring clear communication with both internal stakeholders and external Carrier partners. They will contribute positively to our collaborative team, which operates across Edinburgh, Paris, and London.

As a Management Accountant at Trainline, you will…

  • Own International Carrier Liability balances by preparing reconciliations, identifying variances and recommending solutions to address them per required accounting treatment.
  • Be a key point of contact for queries and negotiations with internal country supply managers and external Carrier partners.
  • Prepare and present monthly and periodic analysis of creditor movements, comparing to budget and prior year balances.
  • Own Carrier Liability budgeting and forecasting.
  • Be the point of contact for external and internal audit visits.
  • Champion Process & Controls.
  • Map and simplify current Balance Sheet processes and implement improvements throughout the reconciliations to ensure support is accurate and relevant.
  • Develop and document controls around carrier liability reconciliations and drive better automation with Finance Data & Controls team.
  • Demonstrate continuous process improvement and work with others to streamline key processes.
  • Provide ad hoc support across areas of financial control during year-end and audit.
  • Contribute to the transformation of the cash forecasting process.

People and Business Partnering

  • Business partner across the Management Accounts, Commercial Finance, Data and Controls and Group Reporting teams. Provide all relevant financial support and analysis to assist in decision making.
  • Be able to enquire, express opinion and provide feedback constructively and with confidence.
  • Contribute to a positive working environment by mentoring and helping to develop graduate accountants within the team.
  • Lead by example and promote Trainline behaviours.

We'd love to hear from you if you have…

  • Qualified CA/ACCA/CIMA, desirable 2+ PQ years’ experience and strong financial accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in a European language (French, Italian, Spanish, or German) is desirable, but not required.
  • Experience operating with an enterprise wide, integrated finance system across multiple business units.
  • Decisive and confident in operating autonomously on a regular basis, positive, self-reliant, open-minded and enthusiastic attitude. Confident in a fast paced, change environment.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and enthuse peers, facilitating their work both as part of the team and under their own initiative with minimum supervision.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Passionate and committed.
  • Keen to work in a growing, dynamic, and fast paced company.
  • Able to build relationships and utilise them both within the wider Finance team and across the business.
  • Well organised and able to manage/prioritise own workload and meet deadlines.
  • Analytically minded, able to investigate the detail but also consider the bigger picture.
