About the role

The Responsible Officer is the designated and named point of contact for all qualification regulators that regulate TQUK in its capacity as an Awarding Organisation and End‑Point Assessment Organisation. This includes, but is not limited to, Ofqual and CCEA Regulation in Northern Ireland. The role is undertaken by a senior manager within the organisation and is not a full‑time position in isolation. The postholder must be prepared to be held ultimately accountable for the actions of TQUK in relation to regulatory compliance and quality assurance. The Responsible Officer must have a comprehensive and in‑depth working knowledge of regulatory requirements and carries the authority to speak on behalf of the organisation on regulatory matters. They should expect to be involved in all official communications with regulators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the authoritative point of contact for all regulatory bodies in relation to any activity of interest to the regulator, including:
    • TQUK’s compliance with Conditions of Recognition
    • TQUK’s capacity to develop, deliver and award qualifications efficiently
    • The standards of qualifications currently offered or proposed
    • Matters that may impact public confidence in qualifications
    • The accessibility of qualifications, including compliance with Equalities Law
  • Oversee TQUK's compliance framework, ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place to minimise and manage compliance risk.
  • Provide support and guidance on TQUK’s regulatory framework and obligations
  • Disseminate communications from regulators to appropriate operational managers
  • Collate, authorise, and submit regulatory responses as required
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues across the wider AQA Group, in particular with the AQA Regulatory Team and the AQA RO, sharing information on regulatory matters as necessary.
  • Check and challenge Executive Team and Leadership Team members on matters relating to compliance and quality, both:
    • Formally, through the annual Statement of Compliance process
    • Informally, through ongoing day‑to‑day interactions

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain an excellent working knowledge of all relevant regulatory documentation
  • Maintain a sound understanding of Ofqual audit processes, sanctions, thematic reviews, and regulatory action processes and schedules
  • Provide an authorised signature for use on all regulated TQUK certificates

Proven experience in a similar role. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. An open, transparent, and collaborative approach to working with regulatory bodies. Confidence and authority to act as a decisive spokesperson on behalf of the organisation. An uncompromising commitment to upholding the reputation, standards, and compliance status of TQUK Training, Qualifications & Apprenticeships.
