About the Role
Are you interested in developing your career in Trading Standards in a vibrant, forward‑thinking service? Trafford’s Trading Standards team is part of a larger group of Regulatory Services, all co‑located at Trafford Town Hall. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual able to work on their own initiative, but also as part of a team; using a range of innovative problem‑solving enforcement tactics to protect our Trafford residents. The primary role of the Trading Standards Team is to conduct regulatory and enforcement functions in the areas of product safety, consumer protection, fair trading, metrology, underage sales, renters rights and animal feedstuffs. The Trading Standards team are crucial to the Council meeting its statutory requirements in the above areas and the team provides specialist knowledge and advice in these topics. This role offers the flexibility of hot desking / home working together with field‑based work. Continuous professional development and training is fully encouraged.
About you
You will have a Diploma in Consumer Affairs & Trading Standards / DCATS or equivalent recognised qualification and / or experience resulting in an equivalent level of skills, knowledge and legal expertise. An AFI Accredited Financial Analyst qualification (or willingness to work towards the qualification) would be desirable. You will be responsible for delivering excellent regulatory service across the full range of Trading Standards duties (excluding food standards). You will need to demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills, together with a proven record of effective working with relevant partners and business community. Your style and approach will reflect our values and behaviours. You will be committed to continual professional development and improving the way you do things to ensure effective outcomes; valuing and respecting others’ contribution and working together. You will take ownership of your actions and strive to get things right first time, learning from when things do go wrong; you will enjoy taking personal responsibility to resolve issues and change what you do and how you do it to make a difference. The ability to deliver effective project‑based work, prioritise and manage a busy workload and deliver to tight deadlines with passion and pride in your work. You will have flexibility in terms of hybrid working at home and in the office. You will hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own vehicle for work use, willing to travel to and work at different sites across the borough of Trafford.
