At Heyes Lane Primary School, we believe every family deserves access to high-quality, engaging childcare. That’s why we are excited to launch our brand-new, in-house Breakfast and Afterschool Club, and we’re looking for a dynamic, passionate, and enthusiastic Deputy Head of Education and Welfare to help lead the way.

Role Overview:
We believe in being “an exceptional school for all”, and that includes our wraparound provision. You will play a key role in ensuring this ethos shines through before and after the school day. As the Deputy for Education and Welfare, you will support the Head of Education and Welfare in the day-to-day running and management of the Breakfast and Afterschool Club. Working alongside a team of up to 8 staff, you will help maintain high standards of care and a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere.

You will be a first point of contact for parents and colleagues in the Head’s absence, responsible for supporting the welfare of children and staff. You will also enjoy opportunities to contribute to planning and delivering engaging activities based on the children’s interests and your own creative passions.

Key Responsibilities:
Support the Head of Education and Welfare to plan, organise, and evaluate an inclusive, safe, caring, and stimulating environment
Act as a positive role model, motivating and supporting team members in their day-to-day duties
Assist with organising and delivering staff training, appraisals, and meetings as required
Maintain records and complete relevant administration, including attendance, incident forms, and risk assessments
Attend training and contribute to continuous improvement of the provision
Provide nurturing emotional support to children at all times
Support the management of behaviour positively, in line with the school’s relational approach
Welcome and communicate with parents, carers, and visitors warmly and professionally
Act as Deputy Safeguarding Lead and support the club’s SENCo responsibilities, under the direction of the school’s DSL and SENCo
Build positive relationships with school staff to ensure consistent support for children
Assist in resolving parental concerns, complaints, and issues as they arise
Support the oversight of first aid provision and ensure accurate record keeping
Carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by the Head of Education and Welfare or the school’s senior leadership team

What we can offer you:
At Heyes Lane, we recognise that to support our children well, we must first support our staff. As our Deputy Head of Education and Welfare, you’ll benefit from:
A warm, caring school ethos where staff well-being is prioritised and actively supported
A family-first Senior Leadership Team that truly understands the importance of worklife balance
A creative and nurturing environment where you can grow professionally without overwhelming demands
A strong, supportive staff team that shares the workload and ensures everyone feels valued
Children who are curious, kind, and eager to thrive making every day fulfilling and rewarding
A committed and supportive Governing Board that champions staff well-being alongside high expectations
Positive relationships with engaged parents and carers who support and respect your role
A role that fits within term-time only working, giving you essential time to rest, recharge and enjoy a healthy balance

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and will take place on Monday 7 July at 9.15am. These can be arranged by contacting the school office on 0161 973 9850 or by emailing the School Business Manager Denise Clark, [emailprotected]

Heyes Lane Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to satisfactory references (which will be requested prior to interview), an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, a medical fitness check, evidence of qualifications, and verification of the right to work in the UK.
