About the role
Trafford\’s Environmental Health teams are part of the wider Regulatory Services Team that is based at Trafford Town Hall in Stretford. Trafford is a diverse and exciting place to work with excellent opportunities and varied workload. You will be joining a busy, friendly, and proactive team with opportunities to gain experience in a wide range of commercial settings.
Greater Manchester\’s public protection teams have secured funding to continue to build and develop Greater Manchester Business Compliance Support https://www.greater.jobs/business-compliance-support . Its aim is to help businesses comply and thrive and will focus on the key regulatory areas of environmental health, trading standards and licensing. You will work alongside eight other new officers to provide support and guidance to businesses across Greater Manchester.
Your role for Business Compliance Support will involve proactively contacting and providing a signposting service for new and existing businesses to help them navigate their compliance issues and questions.
You will work alongside our dedicated, experienced, and knowledgeable environmental health officers, gaining valuable experience inspecting businesses, carrying out investigations, implementing and assisting with operational activities. Over the course of your contract you will be provided with the time required to register and complete the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and portfolio of professional practice.
About You
The ideal candidate will be passionate and excited about joining and continuing to shape our service and enthusiastic about keeping the public safe by helping businesses comply. You will be willing to bring and implement fresh ideas to the service and work alongside our business compliance trainee officers and more experienced colleagues in your local authority.
You will be open to meeting people from a range of different backgrounds and visiting them in their businesses as well as speaking to them over the phone. You will therefore be expected to have good communication skills and an excellent telephone manner, with an eagerness to learn and develop on an individual and team basis.

Qualifications and Professional Development
- Successful completion of degree or diploma in Environmental Health, recognised by the CIEH
- Working towards completion of the Environmental Health Portfolio of Professional Practice
Key Duties
- Undertake regulatory activity including inspections of lower risk category premises for food hygiene, food standards and health and safety, animal health and welfare.
- Adopt and promote an intelligence-led approach to the discharge of statutory enforcement duties, and record and share relevant intelligence in accordance with agreed protocols.
- Maintain records, diaries, travel records and other associated administrative details as required, including entering/processing information on IT systems and databases.
- Undertake advisory, educational and promotional work to the public, commercial premises and organisations in accordance with agreed work programmes and specific projects.
Special Conditions
- To be in possession of a current driving license and provide a serviceable car for use in connection with the duties required.
Additional Information
You will have flexibility in terms of hybrid working at home and in the office.
Flexibility will be required to work outside core hours.
