Salary: £30,204 - £32,013 FTE

The Trafford and Stockport College Group (TSCG) is seeking an experienced SEND Learning Mentor contributing to our vision of unlocking potential for successful futures.

About The Role

We are looking for a dedicated SEND Learning Mentor to deliver tutorial sessions and activities to construction study programme students. This role involves implementing policies and procedures to support student attendance, retention, achievement, and progression.

Key Deliverables

  • Deliver tutorial sessions on employability, mental health, social and emotional wellbeing, careers, and British Values.
  • Implement intervention strategies that support learner attendance, retention, achievement and progression, with a strengthened focus on learners with SEND, SEMH needs and additional barriers to learning.
  • Deliver targeted pastoral and SEND‑informed interventions and day‑to‑day support around emotional regulation, resilience, social communication and engagement.
  • Contribute to the development of inclusive practice across the college, working collaboratively with curriculum teams and external agencies, both in class and through the delivery of CPD.
  • Deliver structured interventions to support:
    • Emotional regulation and resilience
    • Social communication and confidence
    • Anxiety management and wellbeing
    • Engagement, attendance and achievement
  • Support learners to identify barriers, triggers and coping strategies, enabling improved self‑regulation, independence and engagement.
  • Provide proactive mentoring to improve motivation, behaviour and progression outcomes.
  • Respond effectively to incidents of distress, dysregulation or behavioural escalation using relational and restorative approaches.
  • Support reintegration following absence, suspension or periods of disengagement.
  • Maintain accurate records of interventions, progress and impact.
  • Work collaboratively with the DoC, Centre Manager and curriculum teams to follow up concerns regarding achievement, retention and/or behaviour to create a tiered intervention approach.
  • Stay up to date with developments in construction education, qualification frameworks, and industry expectations.
  • Continuously seek ways to enhance our processes, identifying opportunities to improve the student experience throughout their journey at the college.

About You

  • Passionate and dedicated individual committed to making a positive impact on the lives of our students.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by young people with SEND aged 16‑24 and knowledge of the services available to support them. Experience in a Further Education setting and ability to help students achieve their goals.
  • Excellent written skills, including spelling, grammar, and ability to write concisely and accurately.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of learners and develop successful strategies to meet their needs.
  • Role model for students, demonstrating values of ambition, resilience, collaboration, inclusivity, and respect.
  • Ability to challenge learners appropriately, set targets, monitor progress, and develop strategies to support their retention, attendance, and achievement.
  • Well‑developed communication skills and ability to empathise and provide support to young people.
