About the Role
Are you a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated individual with a strong passion for Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Tradewind Recruitment is proud to partner with a renowned, purpose-built SEN specialist school in Whitehaven to recruit a SEN Teaching Assistant for the complete 2026/2027 academic year. This role involves supporting children and young people who have severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties, sensory needs, or physical disabilities. Working as part of a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team, you will help create a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment where pupils can build independence, communication skills, and reach their personal achievements.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis across structured learning, creative activities, and social times.
- Assisting with sensory development, communication programmes (such as PECS or Makaton), and personal care needs where required.
- Implementing tailored individual education and healthcare plans under the guidance of class teachers and SEN specialists.
- Helping foster a calm, encouraging atmosphere and supporting positive behaviour strategies.
- Tracking student engagement and progress to provide valuable feedback to the SENCO and teaching staff.
What We Are Looking For
- Prior experience supporting children, young adults, or vulnerable individuals with SEN or complex needs (in school, care, or support settings).
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable nature with strong emotional resilience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to assist with personal care and physical support routines if needed.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to process one).
