A 2-form entry primary school in West Drayton is seeking an experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. The successful candidate will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and learning difficulties who will be new to the school. The role will involve helping the child settle into their new environment, build relationships, access learning, and develop confidence and independence within a mainstream classroom.
This is an important role for a candidate who is patient, consistent, and able to build a strong relationship with a child who will require additional support as they transition into a new school setting.
The Role- Provide dedicated 1:1 support within a mainstream classroom
- Support a child with ASD and learning difficulties
- Help the child settle into school routines and their new environment
- Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
- Support access to learning and classroom activities
- Use appropriate strategies to support communication, engagement, and emotional regulation
- Encourage independence and participation wherever possible
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team
- Follow and contribute to individual support strategies where appropriate
- Has previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly ASD
- Has experience working in a primary school or similar educational setting
- Is patient, nurturing, and consistent
- Can build strong professional relationships with pupils
- Understands the importance of routine, structure, and clear communication
- Is confident supporting a child with learning difficulties
- Can work effectively as part of a wider school team
The successful candidate will need to be able to combine a nurturing approach with clear boundaries and consistent expectations.
