Do you have a strong interest in English, literature, or language and want to gain meaningful experience in a secondary school? Are you exploring a future in teaching or looking to take on more responsibility in the classroom? We are working with a progressive and supportive secondary school in Northampton that is looking to appoint an Unqualified English Teacher from February or April. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, or experienced school staff without QTS to develop their classroom practice within a structured and well-resourced English department.
The Role
- Supporting the delivery of English lessons across KS3 and KS4, following established schemes of work
- Leading small-group sessions and providing 1:1 literacy support where required
- Helping students develop skills in reading, writing, analysis, and communication
- Maintaining a calm, inclusive, and purposeful learning environment
- Assisting with English enrichment activities, including reading initiatives and creative writing opportunities
This Position Would Suit You If You Are
- A graduate in English or a related subject, or someone with strong subject knowledge
- A cover supervisor, teaching assistant, tutor, or instructor ready to progress
- Considering routes into teacher training such as PGCE, SCITT, or School Direct
- Confident, adaptable, and enthusiastic about working with young people
- Experienced with secondary-aged learners (advantageous, but not essential)
