Tradewind Recruitment are working closely with a secondary pupil referral unit (PRU) in the Preston area who require tutors to support the learning of SEMH students on a 1:1 basis. The school aims to improve attendance and engagement with the education system, and some students who are referred for tutoring are youth offenders or are deemed vulnerable within their communities. Some pupils also have additional educational needs such as ADHD or ASC. Working as Tutor is often on a temporary, part-time basis in order to improve students’s attendance before they are re-integrated into the school setting, however the school have a constant flow of students coming through who require 1:1 tutoring, and have a regular need for multiple tutors. The tuition can happen in a variety of settings and mediums; either in school, at a neutral setting such as a library across the Preston/ South Ribble area, in children’s homes, or online, and carers or additional support staff are sometimes present to support engagement. The school do provide some online learning resources, however there is often autonomy for the Tutor to deliver their own content deemed suitable for the needs of the child, and an emphasis is primarily placed on a holistic approach to learning. QTS is desirable but not essential – candidates with previous experience working on a 1:1 basis with SEMH students in a learning mentor capacity often thrive in this role. Responsibilities: Provide tailored 1:1 tutoring sessions Deliver engaging and interactive lessons across the whole National Curriculum Utilise online educational resources and tools to enhance learning outcomes. Foster a supportive and nurturing learning environment to aid in the pupil’s academic progress and emotional well-being. Collaborate with the pupil’s support network, including parents and school staff, to ensure continuity in learning and development. Requirements: Qualified teacher or experienced tutor with a background in supporting students with social, emotional and mental health difficulties as a learning mentor Ability to implement a holistic approach to learning and to provide pastoral support to students Strong knowledge and expertise in Maths and English. Ability to effectively utilise online educational platforms and resources. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Empathetic and patient approach to working with vulnerable students. Relevant safeguarding and child protection training and certifications. Benefits: Competitive hourly rate of £30-£35 per hour, dependant upon experience and qualifications.
