Are you passionate and proactive about supporting the emotional, social, and mental wellbeing of young people? Do you have the resilience, empathy, and determination to make a real difference in the lives of learners? Tradewind are currently recruiting for a dedicated Student Support Assistant to join a supportive and dynamic behaviour team in a mainstream secondary school based in the heart of Selly Oak. This is an incredibly rewarding role where you will play a key part in helping students overcome barriers to learning, manage their emotions, and build confidence and resilience.
About you
- Experience working in a pastoral role, ideally in a secondary or further education setting
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to engage with students, staff, families, and external professionals
- Excellent organisational ability, able to manage data, attendance records, interventions etc.
- Empathy, resilience, and a commitment to supporting young people's personal, social and emotional development
- Understanding of safeguarding requirements and familiarity with relevant legislation
- A flexible, proactive, solution-focused mindset
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with teaching staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to implement support plans tailored to individual needs.
- Respond to behaviour incidents in a calm and restorative manner, promoting a positive and respectful school culture.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes.
- Support the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils, adhering to school and national policies.
