About the Setting

Located in Blackpool, this is a highly respected Alternative Provision and PRU that provides a "fresh start" for young people who have faced barriers in mainstream education. The school is more than just a place of learning; it is a community built on trauma-informed practice and the belief in the power of change. The school specialises in re-engaging students, helping them bridge the gap between their current challenges and their next steps - whether that be college, apprenticeships, or vocational training. With a calm, structured environment and a focus on "Quality First Teaching," this setting ensures that every pupil feels valued, safe, and heard.

The Opportunity (Key Stage 4 Focus)

We are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our Blackpool-based KS4 team. Your primary focus will be helping students in Years 10 and 11 navigate their final years of secondary education.

  • Emotional Literacy (ELSA): Use ELSA techniques (or similar emotional support strategies) to help students manage anxiety, build self-esteem, and improve social skills.
  • Bespoke Support: Work 1:1 and in small groups to help pupils access a curriculum that combines core academic subjects with vocational project-based learning.
  • Therapeutic Approach: Work alongside a multidisciplinary team, including behaviour mentors and school counsellors, to provide a holistic support network.
  • Transition Planning: Help students develop the independence and resilience needed for life after school.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience: Previous experience in a PRU, AP, or SEMH setting is essential.
  • Specialism: ELSA training is highly desirable, but a strong background in mental health support or youth work will be considered.
  • Resilience: A calm, "thick-skinned," and non-judgemental approach to challenging behaviour.
  • Heart: Someone who believes in building trusted connections and "staying committed to kindness" even on difficult days.

The Benefits

  • Direct Route to Contract: For the right candidate, this role offers a clear path to a permanent school contract.
  • Competitive PAYE Pay: No umbrella company fees - what you earn is what you keep.
  • Professional Growth: Access to National College CPD and specific training in trauma-informed approaches.
  • Supportive Culture: Join a team that prioritises staff well-being and daily briefings to ensure no one works in isolation.
