Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking dedicated, resilient, and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants to work across specialist provisions and schools throughout Sheffield on a supply basis. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who may face barriers to learning within a traditional educational environment. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils regulate their emotions, engage positively with learning, and develop the confidence and skills needed to succeed both academically and personally.
Working on a supply basis, you will have the opportunity to support a variety of schools and specialist provisions across Sheffield, gaining valuable experience while making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.
The Role
- Support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs both inside and outside the classroom.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and personal development.
- Assist teachers in delivering lessons and adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
- Support the implementation of behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.
- Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and other professionals to support pupil progress.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or additional support requirements.
- A patient, calm, and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to remain professional and adaptable in challenging situations.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
- A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
- Experience in education, youth work, residential care, support work, coaching, mentoring, or similar roles would be highly advantageous but is not essential.
