Special Needs Teaching / Learning Support Assistant - Mainstream Primary School
Location: Ipswich, Suffolk
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full Time
Are you a passionate, empathetic, and experienced Teaching Assistant looking to support pupils with additional needs in a mainstream primary school setting? We are currently recruiting for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant (SEN TA / LSA) to join a vibrant and inclusive mainstream primary school from September 2025. This is a full-time role, working closely with a Class Teacher and SENDCo to support pupils who require personalised learning and emotional support.
About the Role:
- Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small group interventions.
- Adapting learning activities to meet the individual needs of pupils.
- Promoting inclusion and supporting the emotional wellbeing of pupils with additional needs.
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals.
- Contributing to EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) reviews and documentation.
Experience of Supporting One or More of the Following Needs Would Be Beneficial:
- ASD - Autism Spectrum Disorder
- ADHD - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- SEMH - Social, Emotional and Mental Health
- MLD - Moderate Learning Difficulties
- SLD - Severe Learning Difficulties
- SpLD - Specific Learning Difficulties (e.g., dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia)
- PDA - Pathological Demand Avoidance
- PMLD - Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties
- VI - Visual Impairment
- HI - Hearing Impairment
- GDD - Global Developmental Delay
- ODD - Oppositional Defiant Disorder
- Tourette Syndrome
- Down Syndrome
- SLCN - Speech, Language and Communication Needs
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience supporting children with special educational needs in a school, nursery, or care environment.
- Be patient, nurturing, and able to adapt to individual learning needs.
- Understand the importance of inclusive and child-centred education.
- Be proactive and confident working independently and as part of a team.
- Hold a relevant qualification or have equivalent experience (desirable but not essential).
