Special Needs Teaching / Learning Support Assistant - Mainstream Primary School

Location: Ipswich, Suffolk

Start Date: September 2025

Contract: Full Time

Are you a passionate, empathetic, and experienced Teaching Assistant looking to support pupils with additional needs in a mainstream primary school setting? We are currently recruiting for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant (SEN TA / LSA) to join a vibrant and inclusive mainstream primary school from September 2025. This is a full-time role, working closely with a Class Teacher and SENDCo to support pupils who require personalised learning and emotional support.

About the Role:

  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small group interventions.
  • Adapting learning activities to meet the individual needs of pupils.
  • Promoting inclusion and supporting the emotional wellbeing of pupils with additional needs.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals.
  • Contributing to EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) reviews and documentation.

Experience of Supporting One or More of the Following Needs Would Be Beneficial:

  • ASD - Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • ADHD - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • SEMH - Social, Emotional and Mental Health
  • MLD - Moderate Learning Difficulties
  • SLD - Severe Learning Difficulties
  • SpLD - Specific Learning Difficulties (e.g., dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia)
  • PDA - Pathological Demand Avoidance
  • PMLD - Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties
  • VI - Visual Impairment
  • HI - Hearing Impairment
  • GDD - Global Developmental Delay
  • ODD - Oppositional Defiant Disorder
  • Tourette Syndrome
  • Down Syndrome
  • SLCN - Speech, Language and Communication Needs

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience supporting children with special educational needs in a school, nursery, or care environment.
  • Be patient, nurturing, and able to adapt to individual learning needs.
  • Understand the importance of inclusive and child-centred education.
  • Be proactive and confident working independently and as part of a team.
  • Hold a relevant qualification or have equivalent experience (desirable but not essential).
