Are you dedicated to ensuring every child feels a true sense of belonging? We are seeking an enthusiastic, resilient, and inspirational SEN Teaching Assistant to join our specialised EYFS SEN Hub. This is a unique opportunity to work within an Academy setting that is proud of its inclusive ethos. We strive to tailor our curriculum so that every child, regardless of their starting point, is provided with the opportunities to be their absolute best.

The Role

Beyond the Basics

Working within our SEN Hub requires a practitioner who is ready to be fully immersed in the pupil's day-to-day development. You will be supporting a cohort of Early Years pupils with complex additional needs, requiring a blend of educational support and physical care.

Responsibilities

  • Personal Care & Well being: Providing essential support with personal care (toileting/changing) with dignity and respect, ensuring pupils are comfortable and ready to learn.
  • Proactive Engagement: This is a physically demanding role; you will need to be "on your feet," showing high energy and the ability to keep pace with the active nature of an EYFS environment.
  • Intuitive Support: Developing a deep understanding of non-verbal cues and sensory triggers to anticipate needs before they become challenges.
  • Consistent Presence: Our pupils thrive on routine and trust. We need someone who will "show up" every day with a positive, can-do attitude to provide the stability our children need.

Required Skills & Expertise

To be successful in this specialised Hub environment, we are looking for the following skill set:

  • SEN Specialisms (subskills)
  • Communication Strategies: Experience or a willingness to learn tools such as Makaton, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), or Visual Timetables.
  • Sensory Regulation: Understanding how to use sensory breaks or "heavy work" to help pupils remain regulated and engaged.
  • De-escalation: Knowledge of positive behaviour support and the ability to remain calm and nurturing during challenging moments.
  • EYFS Development & Play
  • Scaffolding Continuous Provision: The ability to take a child's interest and subtly "scaffold" it to meet their specific learning goals.
  • Observation Skills: Proficiency in tracking small-step progress, recognising that for our Hub pupils, even the smallest milestone is a huge victory.
  • Nurture & Attachment: A deep understanding of the importance of the "key person" approach and building secure attachments.

About You

We are looking for a character-driven individual. You must be intuitive, able to read a room, and quick to adapt your approach to suit the mood and needs of the children. You will join a fantastic team dedicated to providing a range of fun, meaningful experiences in a welcoming, caring environment.
